If Operating Systems were Airlines?

DOS AIR - All the passengers go out onto the runway, grab
hold of the plane, push it until it gets in the air, hop on,
jump off when it hits the ground again. Then they grab the
plane again, push it back into the air, hop on, etcetera.

WINDOWS ?95 AIRLINES - The terminal is very neat
and clean, the attendants are all very attractive and the pilots
very capable. The fleet is immense. After your plane arrives
6 months late, you begin to wonder why it has not arrived
yet. Your yet takes off without a hitch, pushing above the
clouds, and at 20,000 feet it crashes without warning.

MAC AIRWAYS - The cashiers, flight attendants, and
pilots all look the same, feel the same and act the same.
When asked questions about the flight they reply that you
don?t want to know, don?t need to know, and would you
please return to your seat and watch the movie.

OS/2 SKYWAYS - The terminal is almost empty, with only
a few prospective passengers milling about. Airline personnel
walk around, apologising profusely to customers in hushed
voices, pointing from time to time to the sleek, powerful jets
outside the terminal on the field. They tell each passenger
how good the real flight will be on these new jets and how
much safer it will be than Windows Airlines, but that they
will have to wait a little longer for technicians to finish
flight systems.

FLY WINDOWS NT - All the passengers carry their seats
out onto the tarmac, placing the chairs in the outline of a
plane. They all sit down, flap their arms and make jet
swooshing sounds as if they are flying.

UNIX EXPRESS - Each passenger brings a piece of the
airplane and a box of tools to the airport. They gather on the
tarmac, arguing constantly about what kind of plane they
want to build and how to put it together. Eventually, they
build several different aircraft, but give them all the same
name. Some passengers actually reach their destinations. All
passengers believe they got there.?

Au contraire, zou ik zo zeggen, au contraire. Perfecte casting van Cage, het gepatenteerde camerawerk van De Palma met een paar magistrale pan-shots… Schitterende film.

Er zijn zo van die dagen.

Dat je de perfecte latte caramello kan proeven.
Of dat je een elegant stukje code in elkaar kan boksen.
Of dat je 's morgens vroeg onderweg bent naar een klant, en dat plots de zon over de autosnelweg uitbreekt en je ogen plots vochtig worden van die overweldigende schoonheid.
Of dat je tegen alle verwachting in een grote klant binnenhaalt.
Of dat een klein meneertje vol energie en blijdschap zijn nieuwste dansje demonstreert.

Vandaag is niet zo'n dag.

Like i've said before industry after industry is being invaded by little 1 or 2 person companies that are more then happy with making a living per year of sites they love. People keep talking about web 2.0 which no one cares about in the real world, Adsense/YPN is what is truly changing the web, and at the end of the day the ideas that will change/decide the future of the internet is those ideas that make money.

Adsense/YPN is where the action is, they are the platform/foundation of the future web.
Thousands of sites have come out of nowhere and changed entire industries in the last 2 years, another 2 or 3 years and many of these 10-20k sites are going to be making a LOT more money and be a lot bigger.

Like I said in my other post I call this new trend 'Web 3.0' and I think we can sum up as 'Good bye Venture Capitalists' and good bye 'Paid Services' and good luck existing if your company has more then 5-10 employees.

Google zit met een serieus dilemma als het over zijn merk gaat.

Het overweldigende succes van Google zorgt er voor dat mensen het woord 'googlen' als generiek werkwoord beginnen te gebruiken in de betekenis 'iets opzoeken'. Een beetje vergelijkbaar met de termen 'bic' om een balpen aan te duiden, en 'pamper' om een luier aan te duiden.

Blijkt nu in de merknamen-wetgeving dat als een benaming generiek wordt en algemeen gebruikt is, dat een bedrijf dan geen aanspraak meer kan maken op die naam.

Google loopt dus het gevaar door zijn eigen populariteit zijn merknaam kwijt te raken…
